Dr Johnson completed his medical and specialist anaesthesia training in Perth followed by a Fellowship in paediatric anaesthesia and intensive care at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Victoria. He has worked as a children’s anaesthetist for the last 26 years, including 14 years providing after hours cover for paediatric intensive care.
He was the medical lead in the team responsible for the WA new children’s hospital pharmacy automation and electronic medical record projects. After extensive overseas research the team developed a successful tender for the purchase of unit dose and whole pack robotic systems plus ward automated medication cabinets. This will enable true closed loop medication management following the introduction of an integrated electronic medical record.
In 2016 he studied the very different approaches taken by two UK NHS Trusts to electronic medical records, medication management and electronic prescribing.
